Injured Fabregas doubt for Barcelona Champions League clash

(CNN) -- Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas could miss his side's Champions League tie against Barcelona next month after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Spain international limped off the pitch after just 14 minutes of Arsenal's 1-0 win over Stoke in the English Premier League on Wednesday and may not have recovered in time for the away-leg of the last-16 tie in the European competition on March 8.

The injury also means that the 23-year-old striker will miss Sunday's League Cup final against Birmingham -- the London-based club's first chance to win a trophy since they claimed victory in the FA Cup in 2005.

"It is a very small injury but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday. For how long beyond that I don't know. It is very difficult to give a deadline," manager Arsene Wenger told his club's official website.

"He is disappointed. We all feel sorry and sad for him. The only way we can help him now is to win (the League Cup) as he contributed a lot in this competition," the Frenchman added.

England striker Theo Walcott will also miss this weekend's clash at Wembley after being carried off the pitch on a stretcher in the Stoke game.

However, Wenger insisted that the 21-year-old's injury was not serious and that he could be fit in time to face the La Liga champions next month.

Arsenal won the first leg at the Emirates 2-1 with two late goals.

"I saw him this morning. He has a classic ankle sprain. We don't think there is any more damage to it," Wenger said.

"We are sad for him too. He is out for Sunday and maybe one or two more weeks."

Robin van Persie, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby -- who were all on the bench because of injuries on Wednesday -- are expected to have recovered in time to face Birmingham.
